Solid Waste Division
Introduction
The Solid Waste Division is comprised of three functional divisions: Residential Collection; Commercial Collection (which includes Maintenance Operations); and Waste Reduction and Recycling (WRR).
In 2007, the Solid Waste Division collected 72,7034 tons of solid waste for disposal, compared to 75,361 in 2006. An estimated 16,900 tons of material were collected by the Division to be recycled or composted compared to 15,174 tons in 2006. In 2006, Lawrence achieved a 34% recycling rate, which is likely the highest in the state and is higher than the national average for that year.
