Airport Update:

Debbie Van Saun, acting Airport Manager told the board:

·        the Department of Commerce grant for funding on the airport water/sewer project was rejected this funding cycle. Board was told that Lawrence’s economy was too vibrant compared to other municipalities for project grants.

·        Pricing/pro formas on T-Hangar construction, and options for electric doors and heated stalls have been prepared for presentation to the City Commission for consideration and forward movement on construction. A commission meeting date in May has been targeted for the presentation.

·        Airport CIPs have been included in the five-year city budget planning cycle.

The Board instructed Rick Bryant to meet with Mayor Jim Henry to press the needs of the airport with regards to water/sewer services, and request the item be placed on the city commission’s first available agenda date for public comment, discussion and action by the commission. Without these service enhancements, airport growth will stagnate.

Lloyd Hetrick Update

Advised board that the ASOP weather transmitter would re-located to the roof of the new community hangar soon. This move would help alleviate telephone static in the main terminal. Hetrick asked the City for assistance by providing the Park and Rec’s cherry-picker truck.  Debbie promised to look into the request and availability.

As part of AIP documentation, Hetrick’s staff is conducting a survey of ‘N’ numbers through May 31 on all flight Ops involving turboprop and jet aircraft at the airport. Planes will receive a survey letter that will provide airport officials with usage information to pass onto FAA planners.

Summer Chamber Mixer

Board instructed board to proceed with organizing summer mixer with Chamber of Commerce.
